  Setting up a WET11 on a Macintosh
  Question

How do I setup a WET11 with my Mac?

  Answer

Please follow these instructions to setup your WET11 with your Macintosh:

1.      With the WET11 powered off, connect the WET11's Ethernet port to your Mac's Ethernet port
         with a Cat 5 cable.

2.      Power up the WET11, and make sure that the LAN link LED lights up.  If it does not please
switch the setting next to the Ethernet port from II to X, and you should get a LAN link LED.

3.      After doing this you’ll need to setup your Mac with a static IP address which will allow you to
configure the WET11.  Please use the instructions for the OS you’re setting up the unit with.

OSX and Above

1.      Click on the Apple Menu located in the upper left-hand corner of your screen.

2.      In the Apple Menu, select System Preferences.

3.      After the “System Preferences” window opens, click on the Network icon.

4.      After the “Network” window appears, Set “Location” to Automatic.

5.      Set “Configure” to Built-in Ethernet.

6.      Click on the “TCP/IP” tab, and set “Configure” to Manually.

7.      Input the IP address of 192.168.1.5 and the subnet mask 255.255.255.0.  After you do this, your
“Network” window should look similar to this:

OS 9.X and below

1.      Click on the Apple Menu located in the upper left-hand corner of your screen.

2.      When the “Open Apple” menu opens, go to the Control Panel area.

3.      When the “Control Panel” area expands, click on the TCP/IP option.

4.      When the “TCP/IP (Network)” window opens, change the “Connection Via:” option to Ethernet.

5.      After that, locate “Configure:” and change the option to Manually.

6.      Input an IP address of 192.168.1.5, and a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0.  After you do this, your
“Network” window should look similar to this:

Setting up the WET11

After setting up your Mac with an IP address to communicate with the WET11, please follow the following instructions:

1.      Open a web browser (Such as Netscape or Internet Explorer), and wait for it to load.  After the
         browser stops loading, please type
http://192.168.1.225 into the “Address” area of your browser.

2.      You will be prompted for a “User Name” and “Password”, leave the “User Name” blank, and input
         admin
 as the “Password.

3.      After you do this, you should arrive at the Info page of the WET11.  After you arrive here you will
be looking for the “Results of the most recent scan”.  Below that you should see the SSID of
your Airport and/or access point.  For our example the SSID will be AirPort.  Highlight the SSID
and then click on the Edit menu, and then select Copy.

4.      After you do that, click on the Wireless tab.

5.      After the “Wireless” area loads, delete the default SSID of “linksys”.

6.      After deleting the previous SSID, click on the Edit menu, then go to Paste.

7.      Make sure the unit is set to “Infrastructure”.

8.      If you’re Access Point is using WEP, then you’ll need to find out what key length it uses, and
what key it uses and fill in the information accordingly.  If you are not using WEP, then make
sure WEP Enabled is unchecked.  After that your screen should look like the following:

9.      Click Apply at the bottom of the screen.

10.    Click on the IP Addr Tab.

11.    After you arrive on the “IP Addr” page, change the option from “Static” to DHCP, and then click
         the Apply button.

12.    Click on the Admin tab.

13.    When you arrive at the “Admin” page, click on the Reboot button.

Finishing up

After you finish setting up the WET11, the WLAN link should light up.  Once it does go back to the TCP/IP setting listed above and change the configuration from “Manually” to either Using DHCP (OSX) or Using DHCP Server (OS 9.X and below).
